Decode a vehicle registration number

Enter a plate like MH12AB1234, or a BH-series plate like 22BH1234AB.

That doesn't match a recognizable vehicle number format. Check for typos and try again.

What is the BH-series?

Bharat Series (BH) is a newer registration format, introduced for vehicles owned by people with transferable jobs across states — defence personnel, central government employees, and employees of companies with offices in 4+ states/UTs. A BH-series plate isn't tied to a single state's RTO, so it doesn't need re-registration when the owner relocates. Format: YY BH #### XX — registration year, then BH, then a 4-digit number, then 1–2 series letters.

Why no owner lookup?

A vehicle number plate encodes the state, RTO and a series number — all public, structural information. It does not encode the owner's identity. Looking up the actual registered owner requires the government's own Parivahan/VAHAN portal, which gates that information behind OTP verification for privacy reasons.
